With the release of Persona 5 last month, the biggest question on everyone’s mind was, who is the best Persona 5 waifu? There’s several candidates in Persona 5 and they all have their quirks and charm. If you don’t want to see spoilers (some of them are kinda late game), please skip this article.
The Lovers: Ann Takamaki
Ann Takamaki is the first romanceable social link (and party member) we encounter. She’s a foreign student at Shujin Academy and doesn’t have many friends. She’s kind of an airhead and her social link story revolves around her modeling career, it’s pretty boring. Her social link skills are all party member related. You can definitely do better than Ann unless you want to go for the looks only.
My rating: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆
The Death: Tae Takemi
Tae Takemi runs a local clinic in your neighborhood and is pretty sulky at first. You eventually become her guinea pig to test her experimental medecine she is currently making. Her social link story was pretty good and I really liked her personality. She gives access to better items the higher you get with her social link and she sells one of the best accessories in the game, the SP Adhesive 3 which gives you SP each battle turn. One of the best options in my opinion.
My rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
The Temperance: Sadayo Kawakami
Sadayo Kawakami is probably the best social link for her skills. She can grant you free time and we all know how much time is important in Persona. She can let you do other activities in class, make coffee, curry, laundry and if you reach rank 10, she can massage you to grant free time after Palace or Mementos exploration. Very very useful. Romance wise, it’s a teacher-student relationship, so you have to be okay with that. The reason she does maid work is pretty weak in my opinion, but she has great devotion to her cause (and to the Phantom Thieve’s efforts).
My rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
The Hermit: Futaba Sakura
Futaba Sakura is a neet. A NEET or neet is a young person who is “Not in Education, Employment, or Training”. Being shut-in all the time, she has a knack for computers and hacking. She becomes very useful as a party member, but isn’t very sociable. The activities the main character does with her are cute, but she’s younger and smaller than the other candidates. She’s the definitive little sister type.
My rating: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆
The Devil: Ohya Ichiko
Ohya Ichiko is a journalist living in a bar in Shinjuku. She’s always there drinking away her life. She isn’t the DEVIL social link for nothing. Do not be tempted by her, she’s sulky, drunk and her skills are worthless. Her only redeeming quality is that most rank ups give charm… to get a better waifu. Poor poor Ohya.
My rating: ★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The Fortune: Chihaya Mifune
Chihaya Mifune is a charming fortune teller that doesn’t believe your fate-changing powers at first. The price to unlock this social link is pretty steep (100,000 yen and a Mementos mission), but it’s worth it for her story and skills.
My rating: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
The Star: Hifumi Togo
Hifumi Togo is a shogi player and somewhat of an idol at the same time. Her mother pressures her to model and do interviews, but her passion is definitely shogi. She has that awesome personality when playing shogi that is both scary and awe-inspiring. Her skills are good and she was rumored to be another playable character at some point. She would’ve been an awesome addition with her personality. She’s also very, very cute.
My rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
The Empress: Haru Okumura
Haru Okumura is the daughter of a rich CEO and is your senior at Shujin Academy. She’s a bit naive and dumb, but that’s probably because she was too sheltered growing up. She has the best persona (look at those guns!) and I really like her character design and thief outfit (she has an axe!). So for me, she’s the best party member, but not the best Persona 5 waifu.
My rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆
The Priestess: Makoto Niijima
Makoto Niijima is the best Persona 5 waifu. I mean, she rides a FRICKIN BIKE! She wears a biker outfit! She’s always like “JUSTICE!” all the time. No but seriously, I was going for Kawakami at first until I met Makoto. Great personality, design, persona, you name it. She’s a total nerd in school, but a badass in the Metaverse. You can’t beat that, sorry Tae or Kawakami lovers.
My rating: ★★★★★★★★★★
Here’s a bonus for those of you who are curious as to what happens when you go full harem with all the Persona 5 waifu. It does not end pretty.
